WEIL Hotel Sets National Precedent as Malaysia’s First Certified ESG Hotel

WEIL Hotel in Ipoh makes history after receiving official recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records as the country’s first ESG-certified hotel, setting a new benchmark for sustainable hospitality.

IPOH, 15 April 2026 — WEIL Hotel has officially made history after being recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the country’s first ESG-certified hotel, setting a benchmark for sustainable practices in the domestic hospitality sector.

The official certificate was presented by Malaysia Book of Records representative Megat Faris during a ceremony held at the WEIL Ballroom in Ipoh.

The landmark occasion was witnessed by key tourism leaders, including Muhammad Aminuddin Abdul Majid, Director of the Perak Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) branch, and Dato’ Mohd Kamil Dato’ Shafie, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Tourism Perak, alongside prominent hospitality industry figures.

Reflecting on the milestone, WEIL Hotel Managing Director Liew Yu-Wei stated that the record represents more than just a pioneer title, serving instead as a long-term responsibility to drive sustainable growth and contribute meaningfully to the future of the hospitality industry.

The accreditation highlights WEIL Hotel’s commitment to integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards into its daily operations, positioning the establishment as a catalyst for green tourism initiatives in Perak and across Malaysia.
