KUALA KANGSAR, 16 Mar 2026 — Over 27,000 traditional oil lamps (panjut) illuminated the royal town of Kuala Kangsar over the weekend as the annual Pesta Panjut Kuala Kangsar 2026 brought together local villages and public agencies in a dazzling display of Ramadan heritage.
The two-day festival, held on 15 and 16 March along the riverfront at Persisiran Sayong, drew an estimated 20,000 visitors who gathered to admire the intricate bamboo and lamp installations crafted by 21 participating groups.
Judging took place on Sunday night across 13 participating villages, including Kampung Sayong Lembah, Kampung Bukit Chandan, and Kampung Menora. Eight local agencies also showcased custom installations along Persisiran Sayong, transforming the promenade into a glowing evening spectacle.
Officiating the grand finale and prize presentation ceremony tonight, Loh Sze Yee, Chairman of the Perak Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee, praised the strong community effort, noting that the festival successfully keeps traditional arts alive while cementing Kuala Kangsar’s standing as a key cultural tourism destination during Ramadan.
In the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) category, Kampung Padang Changkat claimed first place, followed by Kampung Sungai Siput as runner-up and Kampung Sayong Hulu in third. In the agency category, the Kuala Kangsar Fire and Rescue Department secured top honours, with the Kuala Kangsar Department of Irrigation and Drainage taking second place and the Kuala Kangsar District and Land Office finishing third.
Organisers emphasised that the overwhelming turnout highlights the event’s vast potential as a premier heritage-based attraction for Perak, blending local craftsmanship, community unity, and festive spirit.
