Scientific Expedition Explores Selama’s Natural Heritage to Boost Eco-Tourism and Conservation

Tourism Perak joins UniKL RCMP for a three-day scientific expedition in Selama to document local biodiversity, heritage, and untapped eco-tourism potential.

SELAMA, 19 August 2026 — Tourism Perak Management Berhad has concluded its participation in the three-day Selama Heritage Scientific Research Expedition 2026, aimed at mapping the district’s natural biodiversity and cultural assets for future sustainable development.

Held from 17 to 19 August across the Selama district, the expedition was organised by the Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) in collaboration with strategic local partners.

The initiative focused on gathering and documenting baseline scientific data on Selama’s natural ecosystem and local heritage. Researchers plan to use the findings to establish a framework for environmental conservation, strategic planning, and sustainable socio-economic growth in the region.

Throughout the three-day programme, expedition members surveyed key environmental sites around Sungai Bayor, Hulu Ijok, and Lata Rambong, while engaging directly with local villagers to evaluate the area’s heritage assets.

Tourism Perak representatives noted that involvement in the expedition offers a valuable opportunity to identify untapped tourism products, helping to integrate Selama’s hidden natural attractions into Perak’s broader eco-tourism portfolio.
