Royal Artist Lat launches ASAL 2026 at Batu Di-Situ, bringing together 22 international and local artists to interpret Lenggong’s ancient archaeological heritage through contemporary artwork.

LENGGONG, 6 September 2026 — Lenggong’s ancient landscape met contemporary creative expression today as 22 local and international artists gathered at Batu Di-Situ for the official opening of ASAL 2026.

The cultural programme was officiated by celebrated Royal Artist Dato’ Mohammad Nor Khalid, widely known as Lat. The launch was also attended by Tourism Perak Chief Executive Officer Suhaimi Abu Hassan Shari and Tourism Perak Board of Directors Chairman Dato’ Mohamad Kamil Dato’ Haji Shafie.

Bringing together creative talents from 12 countries — Malaysia, Japan, Italy, Russia, Spain, Scotland, Iran, Myanmar, Oman, China, Singapore, and Indonesia — the residency allowed participants to explore Lenggong’s prehistoric landscape and archaeological heritage before producing on-site works at Batu Di-Situ inspired by their experiences.

Representing the pillars of Art, Stories, Archaeology, and Lenggong, ASAL 2026 aims to promote the UNESCO World Heritage destination through an artistic lens, offering visitors an alternative medium to appreciate the area’s deep history and cultural identity.
